Airport / Pinnawela / Kandy

Welcome and assistance at the Airport on arrival and proceed to Kandy via Pinnawala.

Depending on flight time, visit the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela. There you can see the bottle feeding of baby Elephants, see them at play & accompany them to a river close by to see them having their daily bath.

By evening visit the “Temple of the Tooth Relic” & a Traditional Cultural/Dancing show in Kandy.

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

Traditional dancing show

The Dance was done during the king’s times as an entertaining show for the kings. However its popularity reduced when the British took over, but now it’s revived and taken on for the stage. The Kandyan Music & the Dresses all are a beauty to watch.

SIGHTSEEING : Cultural Show

The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. The Kandy Lake Club Dance started in 1982 with the view of having a cultural dance performance bringing together all Sri Lankan dance types to one platform. It is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka. It has since become a tourist attraction for many people visiting the country and keen on a glimpse of its rich cultural heritage. Hence it has been performing continuously for the last 35 years.

SIGHTSEEING : Pinnawala elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there were 10965 elephants, including 4643 males and 968 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala. The orphanage was founded to care and protect the many orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC).

SIGHTSEEING : Temple of the Tooth

Dalada Maligawa is also know as the temple of tooth relic.It is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Dalada Maligawa is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. After Buddha was cremated, his four canine teeth were taken from the ashes. These teeth are regarded as the holiest relics of Buddhism. King Vijayabahu II was succeeded by his son, who took the throne under the name Parakramabahu II . An erudite scholar, Parakramabahu II complied some of Sri Lanka's classical literary texts, including the Kavusilumina.

Kandy / Seetha Kotuwa / Kandy

After breakfast, proceed to Sita Kotuwa.

Sita Kotuwa

Legend: This is the place where the city of Lankapura once stood. The city had a beautiful palace for queen Mandothari surrounded by waterfalls, streams and varieties of flora and fauna. Seetha Devi was kept in this palace until she was moved to Ashoka Vatika. Seetha Kotuwa means Seetha’s fort and got its name because of Seetha Devi’s stay here.

Kandy / Ramboda / Nuwara eliya

After breakfast travel to Nuwaraeliya. En-route visit Hanuman temple and Ramboda waterfall. Then see a tea plantations and a tea factory.

Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple

In the hills of Ramboda where Hanuman was searching for Sita, the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka built the Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple which is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

Nuwara Eliya

Drive through the little town of Nuwara Eliya observing the well-maintained buildings of colonial Architecture. Visit the busy market where the tea plantation workers rush in and out with their days provisions. Visit the lake Gregory built for generating power during the British Colonial age but now a feature that adds beauty to the city.

SIGHTSEEING : Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple

Chinmaya mission built a temple in Sri Lanka of lord hanuman as a presiding deity. The temple is located in a stunning location that looks out towards the Kotmale valley. There are approximately 40 minutes drive from Spring Acre on the A5 highway toward Kandy. This is the place where Hanuman searched for Sita in the jungles above and behind the temple. There is supposed to be a stretch of barren land known as the ‘Chariot Path' on which Ravana took Sita to Ashoka Vatika to showcase the beauty of his kingdom to her. The temple itself is one of the more enterprising establishments devoted to this legend and contains a granite statue of Lord Hanuman that is said to be over 40 feet tall.

Nuwara eliya / Ella / Kataragama

After early breakfast proceed to Kataragama. En route visit Ramayana sites around Nuwaraeliya & later Ella.

Sita Amman Temple

The Sita Amman Temple can be seen en route to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. The prominent temple architecture will not fail to attract your attention. Ancient statues of Rama and Sita can be seen on one side of the temple. The temple today is a modern building with its paintings, statues and pillars decorated with sculptures; all depicting the tale of Rama and Sita.

 

 

Hakgala Botanical Gardens

The Hakgala Botanical Gardens was one of the pleasure gardens of King Ravana. This garden was expanded during the British period and has a wide variety of flowers including an excellent collection of orchids. This is the exotic pleasure garden where King Ravana kept the depressed Sita, insisting that she marries him. It was here where the heartwarming meeting took place between her and Hanuman, who brought her Rama’s ring with the news that Rama was looking for her. He offered to carry her back but she refused saying it would be an insult to Rama’s honor if she did so. Part of this majestic garden still exists. It is also said that Hanuman nearly destroyed it in order to prove to Ravana of the forces against him.

Ashoka Vatika

Legend: The Ashok Vatika is the place where Ravana kept the Sita captive. Ashok Vatika is a garden that is present in the Sita Eliya in Sri Lanka. Some of the interesting findings here include the rock on which Sita used to sat and meditate. Sita Eliya also have the only Site Temple in the world. The idols of Sita was excavated from here 100 years ago.

Divurumpola Temple

Still revered by thousands, this holy haven was the place where Sita performed her Agni Pariksha (proving her chastity) to her husband Rama. Continuing the practice for thousands of years, villagers still pledge their fidelity or take oaths there and even in certain courts, this agreement was binding. This place has been respected and worshipped by people down the ages.

Ella

Ella is a small mountain village near Bandarawela and boasts three locations linked to the Ramayana where local legend claims Ravana was hiding Sita. First there is the Ravana Ella Cave, located at the massive Ella Falls; a breathtaking 1080 feet high waterfall that cascades into several falls. The rocky undergoes of the waterfall is Khondalite, a kind of limestone which undergoes faster decay as hard gneiss or granite. This has resulted in many caves being formed near the falls. King Ravana is said to have lived in one of the caves above the waterfall. A nearby pool bored out of the rock by the gushing waters is where Sita is said to have bathed Ravana.

SIGHTSEEING : HAKGALA BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Botanical Garden was founded in 1861 by George Henry Kendrick Thawites.The Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. The botanical garden has 10,000 species of flora planted here, And during the spring Thousand people here It has come to see the species bloom. The number of annual visitors is approximately 500,000. The garden is famous for the number of orchids and roses species.

SIGHTSEEING : Seetha Amman Temple

The Seetha Amman Temple is dedicated to Sita, the spouse of Lord Rama, arranged in the slopes of Nuwara Eliya, is treated with persevering dedication by Hindus, as it is thought to be the main such sanctuary on the planet. The temple is based in the Seetha Eliya village also called Sita Eliya. It is found five kilometers along the street from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. History has it this is where King Ravana held Sita imprisoned. It is seen in highly esteem by hindu followers.

Kataragama / Colombo

Wake up early, and indulge yourself in a religious pooja at Kataragama Temple.

This is the temple of Lord Karthikeya Subramaniam at Kataragama. Lord Karthikeya was requested to go to the battlefield by Lord Indra on the last day of war. This was done to protect Lord Rama from the wrath of Brahmasthra aimed by King Ravana which otherwise would have weakened Lord Rama. The benefit was one of the most powerful weapon brahma asthra aimed at Lord Rama for the second time was rendered useless by the presence of Lord Karthikeya. 3 pooja’s or offerings take place daily. Make sure you have a tray full of fruits, incense and of course little money, to be offered (You will get half the fruits back, which you may partake)

In Colombo, Observe the old Parliament, the colonial buildings in the Fort area, the residential areas and the BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International  Conference Hall). The tour continues with a visit to Captains Garden Hindu Temple, Colombo Museum and the Independence Square.

In the evening visit Anjaneyar Temple in Kalubowila.

Colombo / Chilaw / Negombo

After breakfast leave for the Munishwaram Temple & Manavari Temple in Chilaw.

Munishwaram Temple

It is believed that Munishwaram predates the Ramayana and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was located here. Munishwaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Easwaran). A Shiva Lingam was already here when Lord Rama visited this place. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya with Sita in one of King Ravana’s Vimanas. He felt he was being followed by a Bramhaasthi Dosham (a malevolent black shadow) as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin.

Manavari Temple

When the Vimana was passing over Munishwaram, he felt the Vimana vibrating, and realized the Brahmaasti Dosham was not following him at this particular point. He stopped the Vimana at this juncture and asked god Lord Shiva for advice. Lord Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised installing and praying at four lingams located at Manavari, Thiru Koneshwaram, Thiru Ketheshwaram and Rameshwaram in India as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham. The first lingam was installed at Manavari about 5km from here, near the banks of the Deduru Oya. At the Manavari Temple Chilaw Manavari is the first lingam installed and prayed by Rama and till date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in world named after Lord Rama.

  • The customers can prepone /postpone their tour once without any additional charges (if intimated before 15 days of travel date in written). However postponing & preponing second time will attract additional charges.

  • Also note that few service providers (Hoteliers, Transporter etc.) may apply postpone/prepone charges even after meeting above requirement. In such cases postpone/prepone charges will deducted from the advance amount deposited.
